Key Person
At Hillside Playcare we realise the importance of each child having a Key Person who is “special” to them. Time is spent by management and practitioners to select the appropriate member of staff for this task.
“Each child must be assigned a key person. Their role is to help ensure that every child’s care is tailored to meet their individual needs, to help the child become familiar with the setting, offer a settled relationship for the child and build a relationship with their parents”.
EYFS Statutory Framework (DfE, 2012)
A Key Person is assigned to a child when they first register at the setting. However, parents/carers are made aware that this person may change due to the relationships the child may form in the room. We also implement a ‘Buddy System’. A ‘buddy’ is a child’s supplementary key person who is familiar to them and acts as their key person in the event of their key person being absent.
